From the age of 10 years old when she was riding around the farm bareback on the old stock horse Del knew she had a special gift and set about realizing her dream to represent her country at International level. After winning the PCAV State Championships in 1977 Del was bitten by the eventing bug and from then on she set about achieving her dream. Every horse Del has ever competed has been trained by her and there was even an article in a local newspaper in the late 1980’s that said Del could train a clothes horse and still win.
Del competed many horses to Advanced level and on “Beta” she won the coveted Gawler 3 day Event and in 1990 was named “Event Rider of the Year”. In 1992 Del set off with Beta to England where she was ranked in Great Britain’s top 30 Event riders. She was named reserve rider for the Gold Medal Australian Eventing Team at the Barcelona Olympics, only just falling short of her dream when Beta was unable to compete at a key selection event due to injury.
Today Del is a professional EA Level 2 Eventing specialist riding coach and horse trainer and runs her business Delwyn Ogilvy Equestrian at Tynong North. She still provides inspiration to many up and coming riders as she still competes up to 3 * level, most recently on her stunning big “Grey Smudge".
Throughout 2016 Del formed a new partnership with a stunning warmblood mare "Precious Dreams" aka Sirena. Their achievements throughout the year were nothing short of remarkable with some of the highlights as follows:
Del's goals for 2017 are to compete 1* and is aiming for Melbourne International 3 Day Event. She also enjoys coaching the younger generation of riders and enjoys nothing more than sharing her wealth of knowledge and seeing her students shine.
